Let Us Vote is a campaign to allow all UK residents, and all UK citizens living abroad, to vote in general elections and referendums.
In General Elections and in referendums such as the 2016 EU referendum, UK residents from countries outside of the Commonwealth and Ireland cannot vote. Neither can UK citizens living abroad for more than 15 years. Let’s make GE2019 the last election in which they were denied the vote!
All together, up to 10 million people are denied a vote by the current rules: 7 million UK residents and 3 million UK citizens abroad.
Whatever your views on party politics, crises such as the global pandemic show at key points our lives are at the hands of national governments. It is fundamentally wrong that so many millions of people are currently denied a vote and will have no say in how we rebuild society.
Residents of Scotland, including refugees, already have the vote in Scottish elections – let’s make it a universal principle across the UK.
We can win – but only if we act. With enough public pressure, we aim to get a majority in Parliament to sign up to our pledge.
